Role Purpose
The Active Directory Engineer will play a key technical role in a global AD migration and harmonisation programme. The organisation currently operates multiple independent Active Directory environments across several international sites. The engineer will support the consolidation of these environments into a unified, secure, and scalable AD infrastructure aligned with modern identity best practices.
Project management is fully owned by the customer, allowing this role to focus exclusively on technical execution.
Key Responsibilities
The engineer will contribute across all major phases of the migration project, including:
AD Concept & Design
- Assess existing AD landscapes across all regions
- Contribute to the target-state architecture and migration concept
- Produce technical documentation and migration designs
Infrastructure Build
- Deploy and configure new domain controllers and site topology
- Implement OU structure, Group Policy design, and security baselines
Backend Migration
- Perform core directory consolidation tasks, including trusts, schema alignment, and backend object migration
- Prepare legacy environments for coexistence
Pilot & Preparation
- Run pilot migrations for systems, devices, and users
- Refine migration plans and validate readiness
Application & Front-End Migration
- Support application teams with identity integration pre-checks
- Execute workstation, user, and group migrations
- Provide advanced troubleshooting on directory, authentication, and access issues
Post‑Migration Activities
- Perform server migrations and final cutover validation
- Conduct cleanup of legacy objects and configurations
- Optimise AD performance, security, and operational reliability
Required Skills & Experience
- Strong background in Active Directory architecture, migration, and consolidation
- Expertise in Windows Server, GPO, DNS, DHCP, and identity/security protocols
- Hands-on experience with multi-site, multi-region enterprise AD structures
- Proven track record in large-scale AD migration projects
- Ability to work in a fully remote, highly collaborative project setting
- Strong communication and documentation skills
- Experience with manufacturing or industrial environments is beneficial but not required
